July Wrap Up

I started this month on a romancey kick because I’m still recovering from last month. So far, less tears and more stable days, so there’s that. I picked up Avery Flynn’s Awk-Weird, the second in her Ice Kings companion series. This book was a solid sibling to the first, although I would have liked to see a cameo or something from the original main characters. Cole and Tess were okay on their own, but I wish the found family aspect had been more prominent in this one.

And speaking of found families… let’s talk about The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo. I don’t even know where to start with this one. I’ve been meaning to read it for years – avoided it because of hype. And, part of me is glad that I did. I needed to savor reading this one. I loved the characters and the careful construction of the plot. The message was needed – life is short, do what you love. I need to remember that. The characters felt so real, their connections so intricate within TJR’s modern writing style. Although it seems that her next novel is hit or miss, I’m intrigued to see how TJR’s writing style holds up in Daisy Jones and the Six.

After that, I needed something different. Hopefully, something that wouldn’t make me cry. I picked up The Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas through Audible and flew through it! I enjoyed these short stories – some more than others – and I think that they shed some much needed light onto Sam and Celeana’s relationship. Thank goodness I didn’t cry with this one. I’m hoping to finally finish reading the Throne of Glass series by the end of this year, and with this one crossed off the list, my next read will be Queen of Shadows. Four down, four to go. We’re half way there!

And after all of that I binged a whole bunch of Grey’s Anatomy and made it to season 13. At this rate, I’ll be a virtual semi-medical professional by the end of the year. I think my next show binge will have to be Lucifer. Mostly because a friend has been consistent in recommending the show for… years. Wow. It’s been years. My bad. But, also, I’m challenging myself to finish Lucifer by August 21, 2020 so that I can be fully caught up on the series before the newest season appears in my Netflix list.

Currently, I’m buddy reading The Bone Witch with my good friends @Andi_Nicole and @LayaliReads. I’m absolutely in awe of Rin Chupeco’s writing style. Her world is so immersive and the workings of each character are so selectively displayed. Honestly, currently loving this book – even if it’s taking forever for me to get through.
